Funeral services for former Saint Louis School football coach Ron Marciel on Saturday morning have been moved to the Dr. Richard T. Mamiya Theatre on the school campus. Originally, the services were going to be at the nearby Mystical Rose Chapel.
Visitation begins at 8:30 a.m. with the eulogy at 10:45. Mass is scheduled for 11:30.
Marciel died at age 84 on May 27. His record as a head coach at four Hawaii high schools over the course of five decades was 127-71-8, including three Interscholastic League of Honolulu championships at Saint Louis. He was also an assistant coach at the University of Hawaii and Michigan State.
Warrior duo help U.S. to victory
University of Hawaii returning junior outside hitter Brett Rosenmeier had eight kills and incoming freshman libero Gage Worsley 20 digs as the U.S. Men’s Junior National Team picked up its first victory of the FIVB Men’s Under-21 World Championship on Wednesday in Ceske Budejovice, Czech Republic.
Reserve setter Micah Ma’a (Punahou/UCLA) had two key aces in Set 5 in the 25-23, 24-26, 21-25, 25-18, 15-7 victory over the host Czechs. The U.S. improved to 1-4 overall, 1-1 in Pool G, and will face Egypt (1-4, 1-1) today in the pool finale.
Two other Rainbow Warriors on the 12-man roster, incoming sophomores Patrick Gasman and Austin Matautia, did not see action on Wednesday.
Granato part of CNT-Red win
University of Hawaii returning junior outside hitter Mc- Kenna Granato had two kills and a block as the U.S. Collegiate National Team-Red swept CNT-Blue 28-26, 25-15, 25-15 as the round-robin CNT-Minneapolis volleyball competition opened at the Minneapolis Convention Center on Tuesday.
CNT-Red faces CNT-White today. The top two teams meet Friday in the championship match.
The CNT-Minneapolis squad, split into three teams, is part of USA Volleyball’s High Performance pipeline. It is considered a second tryout for the U.S. Women’s National Team.
Trio part of Rip Curl Cup invitees
Three Hawaii surfers are among the 10 international invitees to the Rip Curl Cup 2017 scheduled for Padang Padang, Indonesia, during the holding period of July 10-Aug. 10.
Bruce Irons, Mason Ho and Clay Marzo will be competing in a field that features eight Indonesian surfers, including defending event champion Mega Semadhi of Bali.
