Farrington Highway in Nanakuli was reopened Saturday following a water main break that had created major traffic congestion for Leeward Coast residents since Thursday night.
The Board of Water Supply said all lanes near Pohakunui Avenue were reopened shortly before 5 p.m.
Crews working around the clock finished repairs to the 24-inch main below Farrington Highway at about 7:45 a.m. Saturday. The eastbound lanes, however, remained closed throughout the day while a contractor repaved the road.
The board asked residents from Honokai Hale to Makaha to continue using water only for priority needs until the water system recovers.
The PVC main broke around 6:30 p.m. Thursday, shutting down lanes and slowing the evening commute to a crawl.
A 20-foot crack sent streams of water gushing into the ocean, and eastbound lanes were closed between Pohakunui and Kahe Power Plant.
