With apologies to Samuel Taylor Coleridge: “Sand, sand everywhere, but not a grain to sell.”
Such might be the lament of money-grubbing sellers, who recently tried listing sand from Hawaii for auction on eBay, before the company took the listings down after being contacted by the Hawaii Tribune- Herald. “We’ve removed the active listings on the marketplace and have educated the sellers that listing these products are against eBay policy,” said a top eBay executive.
It’s also against Hawaii law. In 2013, state law was toughened so that it’s now illegal to collect sand from Hawaii beaches; exemptions include accidentally taking sand home in clothing, toys and other belongings.
United’s 747 makes final S.F.-Honolulu flight
The first shall be last.
United Airlines flew its first 747 between San Francisco and Honolulu in 1970 and the last one on Tuesday followed the same route.
Delta has its exit set for December, and British Airways, largest remaining 747 operator, is phasing the plane out, too.
A lot of retro touches were arranged for the UAL farewell — flight attendant uniforms, in-flight entertainment — but even the concept of a spacious aircraft seems like nostalgia today.
