A 38-year-old convicted felon with a history of domestic violence is in police custody for allegedly trying to kill his toddler daughter.
Police said the girl suffered bodily injuries while in the care of her father shortly before midnight Wednesday, and was taken in critical condition to a hospital. Officers
arrested the man at 12:30 a.m. Thursday at a Waianae home on suspicion of second-degree attempted murder, but he has not yet been charged.
Police said the girl sustained the injuries at a Waianae home. The 16-month-old child was transported to a hospital at midnight, an Emergency Services Department spokeswoman said.
However, on July 22, 2016, the mother of three minor children filed a temporary restraining order against the suspect, according to online court records.
On Aug. 3 the man had allegedly violated a TRO and an order for protection.
The suspect was scheduled to be tried in Family Court, but Judge James Kawashima dismissed the case on Nov. 7 after the complaining witness did not appear in court.
In 2008 the suspect pleaded guilty to violating a protective order, for which he served six months. The children’s mother had filed a TRO against him on behalf of herself and her two children.
He was convicted Oct. 13, 2008, of violating a temporary restraining order.
The suspect was also convicted Sept. 26, 2008, of third-degree assault.
He was found guilty in 2006 of felony criminal property damage, and was resentenced in 2008 to five years’
imprisonment.
