A 59-year-old South Korean visitor died Wednesday at an area hospital after being found unresponsive while snorkeling at Hanauma Bay.
At about 1:30 p.m., lifeguards rescued the woman from about 3 feet of water and performed CPR until Emergency Medical Services personnel arrived, said Shayne Enright, spokeswoman for the Honolulu Emergency Services Department.
The woman was snorkeling with a traditional two-piece mask and snorkel, Enright said.
EMS treated the woman and took her in critical condition to a hospital.
She was visiting Oahu with relatives from South Korea.
Boy, 7, hit by car on Liliha Street
Emergency Medical Services said a 7-year-old boy was apparently struck by a car late Wednesday afternoon on Liliha Street.
EMS paramedics treated and transported the boy by ambulance in serious condition to a hospital at about 5:30 p.m.
EMS responded to the incident in the area of 1207 Liliha St.
Police dispatch and Kalihi police said they did not have details on the case.
Woman turns in ordnance found in Kalihi
A woman discovered what appeared to be unexploded ordnance at her Kalihi home and turned it in Wednesday afternoon at the Kalihi Fire Station.
Honolulu Fire Department spokesman Scot Seguirant said HFD officials were unsure whether it was unexploded ordnance.
Firefighters at the Kalihi station, at 1742 N. King St., received the item at 3:26 p.m., secured it and established a perimeter.
Meanwhile they called police, who evaluated and removed it from the station by 5:09 p.m.
