A 23-year-old Ewa Beach man was fatally stabbed in the 7-Eleven Waipahu store parking lot early Sunday by someone who had accosted him about selling some marijuana, Deputy Prosecutor Ashley Tanaka told a state judge Thursday.
An Oahu grand jury returned an indictment Thursday charging Aiven Angei, 22, with murder. He remains in custody at Oahu Community Correctional Center.
Acting Circuit Judge
Clarence Pacarro confirmed Angei’s bail at $1 million.
Tanaka told Pacarro that 23-year-old Jonathan Makana Kanui-Flores and a friend were hanging out in the 7-Eleven parking lot when Angei approached them and asked to buy marijuana. She said the friend told Angei, “No, we’re not drug dealers, just leave.”
She said Angei refused to leave and got into a fight with Kanui-Flores after Kanui-Flores pushed Angei and told him to leave. During the fight, Tanaka said, Angei stabbed Kanui-Flores once in the head and multiples times in the upper torso.
Police said Kanui-Flores was taken to The Queen’s Medical Center in critical condition. They arrested
Angei on Monday at a Mokukaua Street address, not far from the 7-Eleven store. Kanui-Flores died Tuesday.
