Hawaii pitcher Dylan Thomas was named to the West Division team for Cape Cod Baseball League All-Star Game in Harwich, Mass., on July 22
Thomas, who plays for the Hyannis (Mass.) Harbor Hawks, has appeared in 11 games as a reliever, throwing 13 1/3 innings with 18 strikeouts. He is 3-0 in relief with six saves and a 1.35 ERA.
Thomas was the Minnesota Twins’ 38th-round pick in last month’s Major League Baseball Draft for First-Year Players. He did not sign a contract by the July 6 deadline, so he will return for his junior season.
This past Big West season, Thomas had a conference-leading 14 saves.
Maglio helps Canada to bronze
Former Hawaii All-America middle Emily Maglio had five kills to help Canada defeat Brazil on Saturday for the bronze medal at the NORCECA Pan American Cup in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
Maglio added an ace and a block in the 25-19, 25-20, 25-21 match that lasted 83 minutes at Palacio de Voleibol Ricardo Arias.
Manu O Ke Kai takes Waikiki regatta
With 15 wins in 42 events, Manu O Ke Kai easily won Saturday’s Waikiki Beach Boys Regatta at Waikiki Beach.
Manu O Ke Kai finished with 112 points for the overall and AAA division (25-plus crews) in Na ‘Ohana O Na Hui Wa’a’s seventh regatta of the season. Na Keiki O Ka Mo’i was second with 74 points.
‘Alapa Hoe claimed the AA division (13-24 crews) with 39 points and Lahui O Ko’olau the A division (1-12 crews) with 26 points.
Hui Wa’a concludes its regatta season with the association championship on Saturday at Keehi Lagoon.
The Oahu Hawaiian Canoe Racing Association holds its final regular-season regatta today. Racing in the Hui Nalu’s John D. Kaupiko Regatta begins at 8:30 a.m. at Keehi Lagoon.
OHCRA’s association championship is on July 22 at Keehi Lagoon, also the site of the state championship on Aug. 4.
Nagamine headlines Quarterback Club
Hawaii soccer coach Michele Nagamine is the featured speaker at Monday’s Honolulu Quarterback Club meeting at the Maple Garden Restaurant.
Nagamine begins her eighth season at the Rainbow Wahine coach next month’s kickoff tournament, opening with Texas A&M on Aug. 17 at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium.
Lunch begins at 11:30 a.m., followed by the noon program. The cost is $17 for the meal.
