Watching the hearings on Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh is like watching sausage being made — it’s not fun, but it is a process we go through to ensure that the judge will be fair.
Let’s not forget the last time a Democratic president made a Supreme Court nomination: Republican senators refused even to begin the proceedings, so they could leave that nomination to the next president, whom they hoped would be a Republican.
Merrick Garland, although touted by many Republicans as a strong nominee, never got the chance to be in a nomination hearing. So although Kavanaugh is being grilled, at least he has been given the opportunity to be heard and judged.
