Sept. 8 was a big day worldwide for recognition of climate change and the demand for swift action and reaction from our legislators. All everywhere were asked to rise up, rise up — Rise For Climate, Jobs & Justice.
The demand to our legislators was for a swift transition to renewable energy, not just a nod and a “someday” promise.
This was the message carried by 250 Hawaii citizens when they met and joined the tens of thousands nationally from San Francisco to New York and internationally from London, Paris and more.
The demand was for change now.
Why no coverage in our newspaper? Of course, the Little League baseball triumph had to be covered, and large splashy pictures filled two pages. Still, climate change is news.
Bring the absolute need for renewable energy to the attention of our neighborhood boards, our City Council, our Legislature and our daily news. The time is now.
We are at a crossroads. Fight for clean air.
