I am one of those caught up in the incredible inefficiency of the city’s driver’s license renewal process. I blame our elected officials for ignoring the system’s outdated practices and making me as well as thousands of other taxpayers suffer. My license must be renewed every two years. Why?
I need to get a hip replacement. I checked to make an appointment at license.honolulu.gov. The first dates available are the end of November. My license expires Dec. 11. How can I schedule that far in advance when I don’t know if I can get there? This should not be the case.
A friend of mine tried for three days to renew her license at Hawaii Kai. On Day 3, she arrived early and was given No. 65. She asked an employee how many people they handle per day; the employee said about 40. She asked why they did not just tell her to come another day? No response.
My friend has a painful back illness. None of this should be happening.
