I am a local resident who enjoys the luxuries of The Kahala Hotel & Resort as my occasional splurge. I was curious about the current uproar over the state-owned beach land maintained by the hotel. A friendly staff member showed us the areas of contention and explained the situation.

I was impressed that the management was sensitive to the issues and made numerous adjustments to comply with concerns. Kahala Resort keeps the state-owned parcel pristine and inviting for the public and their guests. It would be in everyone’s best interest for that to continue.

I shudder to imagine squatters invading the area, like those on public areas of Diamond Head Beach Park.

I’m a taxpaying citizen who can’t even enjoy certain areas and sidewalks around Oahu because of the tents, excrement and invasion of public areas.

We are fortunate to have the Kahala Resort maintain and preserve the state-owned parcel.
