Letter: Private partners just want to make profits

I am constantly amazed that the tired idea of “public-private partnerships” is always being put forward as the best way for governments to get things done (“HART approves private partnership,” Star-Advertiser, Sept. 28).

It is touted as the way to get the nation’s infrastructure rebuilt, the Blaisdell Center rebuilt or the rail project completed. These proposed partners are not motivated by altruism, by being good neighbors; they are strictly in it for the money.

How do we, the citizens, residents and taxpayers of Honolulu, benefit in any way by these giveaways to corporate interests?
