From the Oct. 1 Star-Advertiser: “’Of the 23 pedestrian deaths, six were in crosswalks, so it’s not the classic ‘car plus pedestrian in crosswalk’ that we’re having a rash of,’ Moszkowicz said.”
When I went to get my mail, I saw a man about 55 years old running in the traffic lane in front of Yacht Club Knolls in Kaneohe. When he got to the narrow part of Kaneohe Bay Drive on the Kaneohe side of Yacht Club Knolls, he continued running in the traffic lane.
What are drivers supposed to do in cases like this? There is not room for him and a car, much less the bus that passed next, so unless he steps out of the road, the vehicles must cross a double line into the oncoming traffic lane to avoid hitting him.
Maybe the focus on drivers is not where the enforcement efforts should be directed.
