As an employee and manager of a Waikiki business, I want to let the picketing hotel workers know that their strike has adversely affected our business. The constant noise and blocking of crosswalks has negatively impacted the visitor experience and we have been forced to close our doors to be able to communicate with the dwindling number of patrons to our art gallery.
The utter lack of manners and respect for everyone in the neighborhood reflects poorly on the union and, in fact, creates the opposite effect they seek. The sight of laughing strikers banging drums and tambourines and yelling at the top of multiple lungs does not engender sympathy for their cause. It just disrupts multiple businesses, creates a terrible experience for visitors and ruins the ambiance of Waikiki.
They can exercise their right to strike without creating an obnoxious atmosphere. They should have some respect for their neighbors and empathy for local businesses and stop the constant noise.
