I agree wholeheartedly with Joshua Wisch about rights for the unsheltered (“Homeless have same rights as rest of us,” Star-Advertiser, Island Voices, Oct. 14). All citizens, sheltered and unsheltered, should have their rights respected and honored at all times. All citizens also should respect and honor others’ rights to safety and health.
I don’t agree with Wisch’s wrong comparison. He compares standing on a sidewalk while talking on the phone to camping out in a tent blocking a sidewalk. If he was in his khakis and Sig Zane aloha shirt (or even if he was in an Armani suit), talking on his iPhone, and sitting in his tent blocking the sidewalk, or sleeping in a park without a permit, he would be infringing on our rights to safety and health, too. That would be wrong, illegal, and should not be allowed.
