The U.S. federal budget deficit rose in fiscal 2018 to the highest level in six years as spending climbed, the Trump administration said Monday. The deficit jumped to $779 billion.

Where, oh where, did those hawks go — not the Hawaiian ones, the deficit ones?
A few years ago I remember sitting around with my friends and talking about budget deficits in the context of the presidential election. At that time budget deficits were allegedly so bad, a certain party required that funds be cut from other parts of the budget to pay for hurricane relief.
It was just announced that the budget deficit grew to $779 billion in the 2018 fiscal year. That’s a 17 percent increase from a year ago and the deficit’s highest level in six years.
The silence is deafening.
