The UH football media guide was opened for the first time in the press box just 10 minutes into the game.
The answer to the trivia question of, “What are the most points Hawaii has allowed in a game?” is 75 by Pacific in 1949.
Utah State looked like it had that number in its sights after ripping off 21 points and more than 200 total yards of offense with more than four minutes remaining on the clock in the first quarter.
The Aggies marched 71 yards in five plays to score on their first drive and 62 yards in just four plays on the next.
UH had its “best” defensive performance of the first quarter when it forced the Aggies to run nine plays to get their 68 yards for a 21-0 lead with 4:57 on the clock.
A fourth-down run from the 1 on the final play gave the Aggies a 28-point first quarter, something they matched later in the game with four more touchdowns in the third quarter. Neither team scored in the second or the fourth quarter.
Love takes an early exit
Utah State starting quarterback Jordan Love lasted just one drive into the second quarter.
The 6-foot-4 sophomore threw for a touchdown and ran for another, leading the Aggies to touchdowns on their first four drives.
Their fifth drive ended with a blocked field goal after Love was shaken up on a 2-yard run inside the UH 10. He threw an incomplete pass on third down and then came out for the rest of the game.
He finished with a QB rating of 184.4 after going 10-for-13 for 127 yards.
Backup Henry Colombi was 9-for-11 for 48 yards.
Ranked teams a problem for UH
The Rainbow Warriors dropped their 10th straight game against a ranked opponent, going all the way back to a 2010 win against a Colin Kaepernick-led Nevada squad.
UH has been outscored by an average of 30.1 points in those games, but the 39-point loss was nowhere close to the largest margin during the streak.
Hawaii lost 66-3 at No. 7 Michigan in September 2016. Only three of those losses were by fewer than 28 points.
McDonald reaches 3,000 yards
Hawaii’s Cole McDonald became the sixth quarterback in school history to throw for 3,000 yards in a season.
The sophomore slinger finished 18-for-45 for 331 yards and two touchdowns against the Aggies to give him 3,163 passing yards for the season, good for ninth all-time.
The only other UH QBs to reach that mark are Timmy Chang (four times), Colt Brennan (three times), Bryant Moniz (once), Dan Robinson (once) and Nick Rolovich (once).
