The silence about gun control from our political leaders is deafening, considering what has happened. President Donald Trump could have broken the silence in his response to the Pittsburgh massacre, but instead chose to parrot the National Rifle Association by saying that things would have been better if the synagogue had an armed guard (“Trump calls Pittsburgh synagogue attack ‘evil’ anti-Semitism,” Star-Advertiser, Top News, Oct. 27).
Why stop there? Let’s make America safe again by placing armed guards wherever citizens congregate: our places of worship, our schools, our parks, our drug stores, theaters. Why not join the number of police states in the world and make the world safer? Is this what we want?
Is it time to vote out of office all those politicians who have earned high grades from the NRA, who ignore voices calling for reasonable gun control, who refuse to even debate the issue by hiding behind the archaic Second Amendment? I think so.
