I am deeply concerned and disturbed that President Donald Trump is making the caravan from Central America such a big threatening concern (“Immigration rhetoric hits fever pitch,” Star-Advertiser, Nov. 2).
The president and many others are making a mountain out of a molehill.
CNN and other media have covered this issue extensively. I believe the president and his followers are wrong.
Sending active-duty troops is not proper. It takes away from training and puts them in another endless, unneeded deployment. It’s a waste of resources.
The vast majority of immigrants are seeking asylum or a better life. Calling it a threat is sheer nonsense.
Let us not forget how the U.S. came about. Our forefathers and settlers migrated to North America from Europe, decimated the natives and put the rest on desolate reservations. This was taught in elementary school history. Yes, our national leaders can and must improve our nation’s immigration laws. Remembering the past and having some heart would help, too.
