The tricky thing about denial is that by definition, we don’t know we’re in it.
If you think President Donald Trump and the Republican politicians care about anything except their own power, look at the evidence. They like that most Americans think the real divide is between liberals and conservatives. That’s the shiny object hiding the fact that all this chaos is really about holding onto power.
If politicians cared about your religious concerns, they would vote for policies supporting people when they’re outside a mother’s body as well as inside. They don’t care about people dying from guns, anti-Semitism, drugs or lack of health care. They don’t care that women’s stories are not listened to, or that it is difficult for some people of color to vote, or that there is vast poverty in the richest country in the world.
Supporting such politicians denies that they are only interested in power. Don’t believe the evidence? Denial is tricky.
