Shame on those City Council members who are not supporting the new sidewalk-clearing bills (“Council committee hobbles sidewalk-clearing bills,” Star-Advertiser, Nov. 6).
Recently, I was walking up Bishop Street at noon and had to step around an obviously homeless lady who was sitting on the sidewalk, with her legs spread out over the majority of the sidewalk, while she ate her lunch. I barely had enough room to step around her.
One morning, while driving down Atkinson Drive, I noticed a heap of blankets on the sidewalk outside Ala Moana Center. As I passed, I noticed there was a person under those blankets. This was at 8 a.m., probably about an hour away from tourists trying to traverse that same area to shop at Ala Moana Center.
Apart from being amazed that anyone could find those sidewalks to be a comfortable place to lodge, it is a disgrace for our visitors to see.
