Considering previous opposition from the architects’ organization to the rail system, it was interesting to find support for a rerouting from downtown to the University of Hawaii via King or Beretania streets (“Change rail route for UH, flooding,” Star-Advertiser, Island Voices, Nov. 7). I wonder if this is really because of a recognition that new transit-oriented development brings with it new construction and architect and developer fees.
The opportunity to close off views of our mountains with high-rise developments must have architects salivating.
