On the subject of crosswalk safety, I have two suggestions not yet mentioned.
First, a yellow crosswalk is best for pedestrian safety. It is a universal color for “caution” and the color must be unique and not to be used for other road signs or road markers, period. Bike safety also should have its own color scheme with the same rules.
Second, looking ahead, all new vehicles should be equipped with a sensor capable of detecting crossing pedestrians. The technology is here, but not the product. The sensor can detect a crossing pedestrian sooner than the driver. The sensor is capable of slowing down the vehicle and stopping if necessary.
It should be a standard feature in all vehicles.
Aren’t we all for this? Let’s save lives and bring joy to all.
