Honolulu police are investigating Wednesday’s traffic collision in Whitmore Village as an attempted murder.
The city’s Emergency Medical Services said the crash sent a 37-year-old woman to the hospital in critical condition with head and back injuries and a 29-year-old woman in serious condition with head injuries.
The incident happened at about 1 p.m. on Whitmore Avenue in Wahiawa near the Uakanikoo Street intersection when a car rammed into the back of another vehicle. Police said the unidentified male driver who injured the two women then fled.
Judge issues 20-year term for fatal stabbing
A 22-year-old man who police say fatally stabbed another man for not selling him marijuana was sentenced Tuesday to 20 years in prison.
Aiven Angei was charged with murder in connection with the Jan. 28 stabbing of Jonathan Kanui-Flores, 23, in the parking lot of the 7-Eleven store in Waipahu. Kanui-Flores, of Ewa Beach, died two days later.
A Circuit Court jury found Angei guilty in September of manslaughter instead of murder.
Circuit Judge Rom Trader also ordered Angei to pay $1,204 restitution to the state Crime Victim Compensation Commission and the state Department of Human Services for Kanui-Flores’ medical care.
Police said Kanui-Flores and a friend were hanging out in the store parking lot when Angei approached them and asked to buy marijuana. The friend told Angei to leave and that he and Kanui-Flores were not drug dealers. Police said Angei and Kanui-Flores got into a fight during which Angei stabbed the victim once in the head and multiple times in the torso.
