It’s hard to believe, but the “MAGA” campaign emanating from the White House has reached a new low.
It’s not the lies, the corruption, the insults, the racism, the chaos, the collusion, the obstruction, the idolatry of foreign despots, not even the separation of families at the border, which, surreally, have now become accepted as the new norms. It’s the condoning, by lack of condemnation, of the premeditated murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, an American resident, by the Saudis, for writing opinions critical of their government.
Our First Amendment guarantees freedom of the press. If this action just gives even one journalist pause, it could have a chilling and detrimental effect on our democracy. This is the total antithesis of what our country was founded on. Do we really have to put up with two more years of this?
But perhaps even more disturbing is that a large percentage of our population still support Donald Trump. Where will this end? How many more murders will it take before Trump supporters find their moral compass?
