I was not moved by Rob Perez’s front-page article (“Tenants at disadvantage in eviction cases, study finds,” Star-Advertiser, Dec. 9).
His first sentence states in 9 out of 10 evictions, tenants lose their living space. The majority of the time there is a good reason the tenant is being evicted: nonpayment of rent, disrespect for the property, no respect for the neighbors.
The tenant is not responsible for maintenance, mortgage payments, repairs and, sometimes, utilities.
Landlords are not going to go through the expense and hassle of eviction proceedings unless they have a good reason. They want good tenants. I have paid tenants to move, which is cheaper and more timely than the lengthy eviction process.
