President Donald Trump has now stated on national TV that he will take responsibility for a government shutdown, which he is threatening to do if he does not receive funding for “his” wall.

His supporters defend this threat, saying the wall was a major campaign promise and a main reason they voted for him. What they apparently have forgotten is the second part of that promise — that Mexico would pay for the wall.

Why are they willing to accept only half a promise?
