Coast Guard crews diverted from training exercises Sunday to transport a 69-year-old snorkeler suffering strokelike symptoms at Molokini Crater and later rescued three people from a capsized boat off of Oahu’s Kaaawa Beach.
A 45-foot Response Boat-Medium crew transferred the snorkeler from the Pride of Maui to Maui County emergency responders at Kihei boat ramp. The male snorkeler was reportedly conscious and breathing.
At 11:24 a.m. a call came in of a capsized 14-foot pleasure craft with three people on board about a mile off Kaaawa Beach. The Coast Guard airlifted the three boaters to Marine Corps Base Hawaii, where Honolulu paramedics treated them for minor injuries.
Plans are underway to salvage the capsized boat, the Coast Guard said.
