Spare us the histrionics, Clarence Chun (“Divisions could destroy country,” Star-Advertiser, Letters, Jan. 3).
The Democrats have taken over control of the U.S. House with a mandate from the American people to keep President Donald Trump in check, and with the speakership held by a strong, experienced, passionate leader, a female no less.
With the realization sinking in that they will have no control in the House for the next two years, Republicans now demand that rival parties put aside their differences and work together — something they had refused to do for the past eight years.
The result if Democrats don’t capitulate to this newfound desire for cooperation? The pitchfork crowd arrives en masse to lay waste to our cities and country.
Such drama.
The House will do what needs to get done and what the voters demanded: legislating to rein in rogue executive power, holding public officials accountable, investigating malfeasance and, yes, actually governing for the benefit of the people.
