While President Donald Trump fulminates against those who oppose his wall, spreading chaos and confusion in his wake, a real emergency threatens the Great Lakes.
As the magazine Scientific American headlines, “Asian Carp Invaders Have Taken the Mississippi, Are the Great Lakes Next?”
This species of carp is especially vicious and hyper-reproductive and not only crowds out native fish but compromises water quality. As a consequence, the $7 billion fish industry of the lakes is in jeopardy as is, potentially, the freshwater fisheries in 31 states.
This is a real threat, one that members of both parties would support. And even if Trump might delight in the fact that these carp are of foreign origin, he would still gain national support.
