Want to score a touchdown in this season of football parties? Serve crunchy chips with a tasty dip that is super, super easy to make. Why not deliver a super bowl of dip by combining three store-bought ingredients?
Kathy Morimoto mixes lomi salmon and kalua pork with cream cheese to merge three of her favorite tastes. She makes it even easier by purchasing the cream cheese already whipped.
The creaminess of the cheese complements the saltiness of the kalua pork and lomi salmon.
Use a 1-to-1 ratio; the same amount of cream cheese to the kalua-lomi filling — or adjust the proportions to what you prefer.
To make the dip a bit softer, add a little liquid from the lomi salmon, and chop the kalua pig to make it easier to scoop.
For a slightly healthier version, buy kalua turkey instead of pork and use lower-fat cream cheese.
If using regular cream cheese instead of the whipped type, leave it out at room temperature to soften. Cream with a fork or a mixer.
Garnish with lomi salmon so your friends will know what deliciousness lies within. Or sprinkle with red alae salt.
Watching your salt consumption? Top instead with chopped onions, tomatoes or green onions for a touch of color.
Taking it a step further, substitute poi for the cream cheese and now you’re going to a luau, in just one bite.
If you like, serve the dip with Hawaii-produced sweet potato and taro chips. Onolicious!
