It is great that 84 affordable low-income rental units are being constructed in Kakaako (“Lofty living,” Star-Advertiser, Jan. 14). We need to build a lot more low-income rental units to meet the demand.
The “Affordable Rental Housing Report and Ten-Year Plan,” submitted to the Legislature in July 2018, said that 22,500 affordable rentals need to be constructed by 2026.
What plans do the state and county governments have to build more affordable rental units? Maybe we need to establish a housing authority similar to Singapore.
