The commentary written by Hawaii Children’s Discovery Center CEO Loretta Yajima reflects the absolute nadir of the ineffective homeless policies (“Homeless may force center to close,” Star-Advertiser, Island Voices, Jan. 12).
A once-thriving educational facility may shortly close its doors because users of the facility, mostly children and families, are afraid and disgusted at the gauntlet of homeless people, items, trash, refuse and more that surround the facility. Where are citizens’ rights and laws on the books to stop this travesty?
So much caring, planning, money and work has built this amazing family facility. What will happen now if there is not a permanent cleanup and monitoring? The problem has existed for too long. Closing the Discovery Center should not be an allowable solution.
