If you’ve driven on the Pali Highway recently, you’ve most likely noticed those stupid yellow crosswalk poles. If we think these yellow poles, which have been run over and ripped out of the ground numerous times already, is our best shot at keeping our pedestrians safe, then we need to think again.
Take a trip to any major city on the mainland or even Kihei, and you’ll find a much better solution: flashing crosswalk lighting systems.
A simple Google search of “how much does crosswalk lighting cost?” will provide all the information you need to know that we aren’t doing our best.
Instead of focusing on yet another huge construction project elsewhere, let’s do a small lighting project to keep our pedestrians safer.
