Mahalo to the Star-Advertiser for hosting a lively debate in its Letters section about the pet-friendly dining legislation supported by the humane societies on Hawaii island, Kauai, Maui and Oahu.
Now that Senate Bill 1152 and House Bill 681 have been introduced, I encourage your readers to review this legislation.
It not only gives restaurants the option to allow patrons to bring their pet dogs, it also establishes clear rules governing the behavior of pets, the responsibilities of pet owners and addresses many of the concerns your readers have expressed.
This measure gives businesses the freedom to serve their customers as they see fit and pet owners the freedom to spend their money with businesses that choose to welcome their entire family. Responsible businesses and responsible pet owners deserve choices.
The Hawaiian Humane Society strongly supports this step toward a more pet-friendly community.
