Three more senseless pedestrian deaths on Monday.

At least 50 surveillance cameras will be installed in Waikiki to ensure the safety of visitors, locals and law enforcement. It is time for the Legislature to pass bills to install red light and speeding cameras with hefty fines.
It also is time for the mayor and City Council to make prevention of pedestrian deaths a priority. We need a comprehensive study of all pedestrian crossings on Oahu with a view to creating standards for alerting drivers as pedestrians step on the crosswalk and providing lighting at night.
A simple web search shows a variety of systems that work.
