Unfortunately, no amount of legislation is going to fix inattention or stupidity and prevent a tragic accident like that in Kakaako (“3 killed, 5 seriously injured in pedestrian crash in Kakaako,” Star-Advertiser, Top News, Jan. 28).
Only two days later, I was walking down Bishop Street to the King Street intersection.
The lights changed, and as I and others were about to step off the curb to cross Bishop Street, a red car coming down Bishop failed to stop and turned onto King, narrowly missing the oncoming traffic.
The following day, I was waiting at the Fort Street lights at King as the crosswalk signal had just stopped its countdown. To my amazement, an elderly man stepped off the curb at the crosswalk farther down from me and proceeded to cross with the ongoing traffic approaching. He slowly crossed and held up his hands to stop the traffic, which luckily for him, it did.
