What if a president gave a State of the Union address and no one listened?
Of course, the current president will have the attention of his supporters, who will listen to him no matter what words flow from his mouth. The rest of America would do better to spend their time watching reruns of their favorite sitcoms.
A State of the Union address always will be crafted to put the president delivering it in a favorable light, but it also informs the public about policy issues and the direction the country is being steered toward. In the case of President Donald Trump, policy issues are as undefined as a burst of hot air, and this captain surrenders navigating duties to others who have his ear.
Trump has been caught telling blatant lies so many times that it is apparent that he does not believe in the concept of objective truth. Very little useful information can be expected from his address today.
