Why is Hawaii suing President Donald Trump for using his lawful authority to divert federal funds to build a border wall to stem the flow of illegal immigration?
Hawaii is protected from illegal immigrants by a 3,000-mile-wide moat. Everyone who comes to these islands needs valid documentation, or they cannot board a plane. Beyond that, each person is screened and electronically searched by TSA agents at some distant airport. All international arrivals are scrutinized by U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
So, while we enjoy all the protections against illegal immigration in Hawaii, via physical barriers and strict enforcement of law, we sue to deny others who may want those same protections elsewhere in the nation.
Hawaii’s participation in this 16-state lawsuit against the Trump administration is grounded in political frenzy and hypocrisy, and not on common sense. State Attorney General Clare Connors should withdraw Hawaii from this lawsuit.
