Here we go again, with Senate Bill 663 and traffic cameras (“Lawmakers advance red-light cameras bill,” Star-Advertiser, Feb. 21). The citizenry was overwhelmingly clear in 2002 — we said, “No!”
So what? Our legislators are just going to keep trying until they can shove it down our throats.
Further, in the same day’s newspaper, an article on civil forfeiture notes that the authority to seize and keep assets “is easily abused” (“Supreme Court curtails seizure of private property,” Star-Advertiser, Feb. 21).
Money from red-light camera fines would be spent in that county, giving said county license to print its own money and thus incentive to widen its net for profit. Isn’t this a conflict of interest?
I can’t wait for the lawsuits. If a class-action arises, I will most certainly join. We said no. Our legislators seem to think it means keep trying. No means no.
