2020 will be the “Medicare for all” election. But before we bite all the way down, ask yourself: What in the U.S. Constitution allows the federal government to force you into such a program?
Don’t we need a opt-out provision?
Ask yourself what incentives the new system would have for people to mind their lifestyle choices. And ask yourself if you are really on board with the heavy cost control that is the main purpose of single-payer (as the monopoly buyer of health care goods and services).
I’m not necessarily against the idea; there are many positive things about it. I just hope that folks go in with their eyes open. Because once we go down that path, it’s going to be difficult to reverse course.
