Recently I was clipped from behind by a bicyclist while walking on the sidewalk near the Prince Hotel. This is not the first time this has occurred. My understanding is that riding a bicycle on the sidewalk in Waikiki is unlawful. From personal observation this prohibition is not enforced. Nor is there any signage warning bike riders of the law.
There is a simple and inexpensive solution: painted no-biking signs on the sidewalk. Using the international sign of a circle with a red stripe over a bicycle symbol would convey the appropriate message to non-English-speaking visitors as well as residents.
Furthermore, Biki ought to add a warning to its app about the sidewalk prohibition in Waikiki.
Fortunately, I was not injured, just annoyed. It would be interesting to know how many pedestrians and bike riders have been injured by collisions between the two.
