Pamela Nakagawa shows little respect for public schools in Hawaii (“DOE not equipped to run preschools,” Star-Advertiser, Letters, March 14).
Perhaps if public education was truly supported by the voting public, the “shortage of qualified teachers, restroom in deplorable conditions, playground equipment unused due to the extensive damage” would not be issues.
Why do so many people here value private education over public? Where did that mindset come from? Think about it.
Public preschools would do wonderfully well if given a chance.
By the way, the quality of a teacher is not defined by salary. My guess is that the public school teachers of Hawaii are there because they love to teach.
