Please review whether the wall proposed along the Ala Wai Canal can be constructed somewhat shorter, since dredging and cleaning the canal might allow for a shorter, less costly barrier (“Ala Wai project will affect 37 properties,” Star-Advertiser, March 15).
The proposed wall would be 4 feet high. Looking at the waste in the canal now, efficient and effective cleaning could lower the height to 3 feet and thereby maintain the attractiveness of the canal for sightseers while keeping it as an effective flood check for Waikiki.
I also think the canal wall should be as attractive and practical as possible, in keeping with Hawaiian design ideas.
