A big thanks to Leslie E. Sponsel for predicting that the United States, like Venezuela, could sink into the abyss of poverty (Like Venezuela, U.S. could deteriorate,” Star-Advertiser, Letters, March 25).

That’s why it was such a nation-saving event when Donald Trump was elected president. He has strengthened our defenses and dramatically reduced unemployment. He is solving trade problems, bringing industry back, and filling the Supreme Court with supporters of the Constitution.

Yes, we could slide into the Venezuela abyss if a Democrat wins the 2020 election. The party’s socialist planks: free college for all, massive federal investment in rail, a motivation-destroying check guarantee for all with free health care and free housing. Estimated cost: $100 trillion. And, to finalize America’s destruction: Allow 16-year-olds to vote and eliminate the Electoral College.

Socialism? Sounds like it to me.
