As a rule, I try to steer clear of politics in my submissions.
However, the upcoming vote between Trevor Ozawa and Tommy Waters for the hotly contested special election for District 4 has significant implications both for our district and for the whole island.
It is well known that Ozawa stands with four other Council members who are trying to be a check on the mayor’s agenda, and that Waters quite clearly is aligned with the mayor.
Your own recent article (“Ozawa- Waters overtime battle heating up,” Star-Advertiser, March 22), very clearly illustrates the depth of the mayor’s backing of Waters, the large amount of PAC money flowing to Waters, and the backing of unions and other groups.
It is these influences from outside the district that I find particularly troubling.
As a longtime resident of District 4, I strongly condemn the external forces that are trying to sway the election and not necessarily serve the actual voters who live in District 4.
