The new Democratic freshmen congressional class is a refreshing change. It is interesting not only for its diversity, which reflects more like what America is today, but its members are bright and exciting to watch.
They are not waiting in line to make their mark just because they are rookies, but have shown in recent hearings that when it came to their turn, they ask thoughtful and provocative questions, without frivolous speeches. Their questions have often stymied the interviewee, perhaps because they never expected that from a new face.
Prominent among the new freshmen are Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Katie Porter and Tom Malinowski, to name a few. Ocasio-Cortez seems to garner most of the spotlight in her performance of the recent hearings and her Green New Deal plan to save the planet.
New blood injected into the party is good to prevent stagnation, and it is fascinating to watch how they can push the status quo and get things done.
