Izzy Dino and Brittany Hitchcock pitched shutouts as the University of Hawaii softball team swept a doubleheader against Cal Poly on Saturday in San Luis Obispo, Calif.
In the first game, Dino pitched a seven-hitter with no walks and four strikeouts in the Rainbow Wahine’s 4-0 victory. Callee Heen drove in two runs and Sissy Pantastico scored twice.
In the second game, Hitchcock pitched a three-hitter and Hawaii scored nine runs in the third inning of a 12-0, five-inning victory.
Heen and Cheeks Ramos both drove in three runs and Brittnee Rossi scored three runs for the Rainbow Wahine, who have won four straight games. Heen and Rossi both scored twice in the third.
The Rainbow Wahine improved to 24-10, 5-1 Big West, while the Mustangs fell to 7-29, 1-5.
Hilo takes two from HPU
The Hawaii Hilo softball team swept a doubleheader from visiting Hawaii Pacific on Saturday.
In the first game, Isabelle Mejia pitched a five-hitter in the Vulcans’ 8-0, five-inning victory.
Chloe Domingo, Brinell Kaleikini and Rayla Jacobs-Kea each drove in two runs for Hilo, while Vevesi Liilii scored three times.
In the second game, Valerie Alvarado pitched a four-hitter and Skylar Thomas had a game-tying, two-run single in the fifth as Hilo prevailed 5-2 win.
Leipua Kaui hit a two-run homer in the fourth for HPU.
The Vulcans improved to 25-14, 19-8 PacWest, while the Sharks dropped to 27-20, 18-10.

Rainelle Matsuoka batted 2-for-3, including a three-run homer, for the Silverswords. She scored twice in the first inning.
Chaminade dropped the second game 6-5.
Alexis Velazquez and Malia Moisa each had three hits for the Silverswords (11-29, 8-20 PacWest).
Dom Seva’aetasi batted 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs for the Urban Knights (9-10, 5-4).
Wade to speak at Quarterback Club
University of Hawaii men’s volleyball coach Charlie Wade will be the featured speaker at Monday’s Honolulu Quarterback Club meeting at Maple Garden Restaurant.
Wade is in his ninth season as coach. The Rainbow Warriors are ranked No. 1 in the AVCA poll and just had their record sets-won streak ended at 74 by No. 3 UC Santa Barbara.
The Rainbow Warriors will conclude the regular season at No. 2 Long Beach State this week.
The luncheon, which is $17 per person, will start at 11:30 a.m. and the program will follow at noon.
Hilo baseball sweeps HPU
The Hawaii Hilo baseball team swept a doubleheader from Hawaii Pacific on Saturday at Hans L’Orange Park.
In the first game, Dylan Sugimoto had a go-ahead, three-run triple in the seventh inning as the Vulcans triumphed 7-4.
Brandyn Lee-Lehano and John Kea both pitched two innings of scoreless relief for Hilo.
In the second game, Kyle Yamada batted 3-for-3 with three runs and three RBIs and Mikey Rita scored three runs in the Vulcans’ 13-4 win.
Kyle Layugan hit a two-run homer for HPU.
The Vulcans improved to 17-15, 15-10 PacWest, while the Sharks fell to 19-18, 6-15.
