Thanks to Janae Theodore for a well-written, honest look into the disconnected, almost sinister world that is our American health care system (“Fight unreasonable health care costs,” Star-Advertiser, Raise Your Hand, April 7). She has restored my faith in our country’s youth.
While dealing with my 95-year-old aunt’s recent emergency hospital visits, I came away with the impression that she is no more than an opportunity for hospital, doctor, specialist and therapist charges, ad nauseum. It just seems like everyone wants a piece of the patient pie.
While I understand medical costs can be expensive, as a layman I can’t understand the myriad charges adding up to more than $26,000 for a few days — exactly what Theodore pointed out. Our health care system is in dire need of accountability and transparency.
