Former Hawaii basketball guard Leland Green will play at Division II Humboldt State for his senior season, the Lumberjacks announced on their website Wednesday.
Green, a reserve who averaged 2.6 points and 8.7 minutes in 27 games in 2018-19, had his best season as a true freshman in 2016-17, scoring 7.0 points per contest. The 6-foot-3 Los Angeles product struggled as a sophomore then was slowed by offseason surgery heading into his junior year and played mostly spot minutes.
His highlights included a 25-point outing against Long Beach State and game-winning 3-pointer against Cal State Northridge. Those came in consecutive games his freshman year.
Because he is dropping down a division, he does not have to sit out a season.
Green said in the Lumberjacks’ release: “I want to thank God for my God-given ability to be able to play the sport that I love. Also my parents and family for their love and support through the ups and downs. I want to thank my high school coach Reggie Morris and the entire coaching staff for pushing me to be the best that I could be. I’m blessed to finish out my college career at Humboldt State and I’m looking to do big things.”
WNBA’s Liberty draft former Wahine Huff
Megan Huff, a forward for the University of Utah women’s basketball team, was drafted 26th overall in the WNBA Draft by the New York Liberty on Wednesday in New York City. The Liberty took Huff with the second pick of the third round.
Huff played two seasons for the University of Hawaii basketball team, twice earning the Big West Conference sixth player of the year award. She was named to the All-Big West second team in 2015-16, and helped the Rainbow Wahine win the Big West tournament. She also played two seasons for the Rainbow Wahine volleyball team.
After transferring to Utah and redshirting in 2016-17, Huff went on to become just the second player for Utah to earn back-to-back first-team all-Pac-12 honors. In 60 career games for the Utes, Huff scored 1,026 career points, becoming just the third player in program history to score over 1,000 points in two seasons.
She finished her Utah career in the top 10 in single-game points, single-season points, single-season scoring, single-season rebounding, career scoring, career rebounding, career 3-point percentage and career free-throw percentage.
Huff is the sixth player in Utah women’s basketball history to be drafted by the WNBA.
